About these missing number worksheets
A number train is missing a car. Kids look at the numbers, work out the counting rule, and circle the number that fills the gap. It's great practice for number order and skip counting. Choosing from a few answers lets kids check their own thinking as they go.
Kindergarteners count by ones. First and second graders skip count by twos, fives and tens. Older kids tackle threes, fours, 25s, 50s and 100s, and sometimes count backward, so they have to find the rule before answering. New number trains appear with every print.

Tips for grown-ups

Questions parents ask
Why is skip counting important?
Skip counting builds number sense and makes multiplication easier, since counting by 5s is the same as the 5 times table.
What's a good first skip counting pattern?
Counting by 10s and 5s is usually easiest, followed by 2s. Threes and fours take more practice.
My child counts on correctly but struggles backward. Is that normal?
Yes. Counting backward is harder for most kids, so short, regular practice helps.
