About odd one out worksheets

Which one doesn't belong? Each row shows a small group of pictures, and one of them is from a different family. Kids circle the odd one out and practice thinking about what things have in common. It's simple to explain, quick to check and works well for kids who can't read yet.

Younger children get clear differences, like a fruit among vehicles. Older kids get close calls, like a vegetable hiding among fruits, which makes them explain their thinking. The answer key says why each answer is right. Talking it through afterward is half the fun.

What each level covers

  • Preschool

Four pictures per row with one obvious outsider from a totally different group.

  • Kindergarten

Four pictures per row with clear groups such as animals, food, clothes and vehicles.

  • 1st Grade & 2nd Grade

Closer families, for example sea animals with one farm animal, so kids must look carefully.

  • 3rd Grade & 4th Grade & 5th Grade

Five pictures per row and close categories that reward careful reasoning.
