About these shadow matching worksheets
Shadow matching asks kids to look at outlines rather than colors and details. Each puzzle has a column of pictures and a column of black shadows, and kids draw a line to connect each picture to its shadow. A solved example pair shows the way.
Preschoolers match three pairs, kindergarteners match four, and first and second graders match five shadows from the same animal family, where the outlines look more alike and careful looking matters. Each page starts with a solved example pair. New pictures appear with every print.

Questions parents ask
What do shadow matching worksheets teach?
They build visual discrimination, the ability to notice differences in shape and outline, which also helps with letters and reading.
What age are shadow matching activities for?
They work well for preschool and kindergarten, and harder sets keep older kids thinking.
Does my child need to draw straight lines?
No. Any line that clearly connects the picture to the right shadow counts.
